This series of artwork is about being creative in a stifling environment, e.g. an office. The artwork aims to challenge the way we look at and treat everyday objects, especially those found in the office environment, in a fun and creative manner. For example Mazes. Theses pieces consist of bent and broken paper clips. The pieces of the paper clips combine to form the walls of a maze, the type you would find in a puzzle book. The idea of boredom is expressed in this piece with the manipulation of paper clips referring to a common fidgeting practice and the maze alluding to the trapped feelings that office workers often have in their confined workplaces.
When this body of artwork was exhibited the layout of the work in the exhibition space aimed to create a rigid spatial environment through repetitive and symmetrical layouts and a uniform size and frame for all photographic works. This type of layout is designed to allow the content of the images and videos to stand apart from the space while also alluding to the kind of environment that prompted their creation.
The content of the images and videos also have an underlying theme that alludes to the hectic modern life often referred to as the “rat race”.
